Designed in Hyundai's Irvine, California studio the 2011 model sports what is described as a "fluidic sculpture design" making it very pleasing to the eye. Under the hood, there is now a new 4 cylinder 2.4 Liter 198 horsepower Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine. The new GDI technology is a very exciting new innovation as it provides a means to directly inject fuel into the combustion chamber and provide a more precise amount of fuel into each cylinder. The net result is you have a vehicle that gets class leading fuel economy ratings of 22 mpg in the city, 35 mg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined while still producing more torque and horsepower than some of the well established mid sized sedans like the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. The new Sonata also gets high marks for safety as it was named a "Top Safety Pick" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. When you then consider that the base price for the GLS trim starts at under $20K, the new Sonata is an excellent bargain.
